The AKC Welcome Jillian!

One of the newest breeds recognized by the AKC is the Entlebucher, known also as the Entelbunch Mountain Dog, which just became eligible to compete among the herding dog group on January 1, 2011.

The Entlebuncher is the smallest of the four "Sennenhunds," or Swiss Mountain Dogs. Sennenhunds are believed to be descendants of dogs brought to Switzerland by the Romans in the First Century B.C., but the first record of the Entlebuncher appears in 1913.

Entlebunchers were primarily used by Alpine herdsmen to drive cattle, and while these dogs are known to be incorruptible watchdogs, they have virtually no hunting instinct. They are friendly, easygoing dogs that enjoy the company of humans and other dogs.  They are known both for their loyalty and for being exceptionally clean, requiring minimal grooming. While they are very pleasant dogs, they are not recommended for first time dog owners.  They have an extraordinary intelligence level, learn very quickly, and thus require guidelines to be established early with clear communication.

Dog lovers can easily fall in love with these cheerful, alert and courageous K-9s.

Jillian
Jillian is one of the first Entlebunchers we've had, and though she's a mix, she's laying a great precedent for her breed. This little girl is full of energy and loves to spend her time with other dogs and kids.  If you'd like to be one of the first people to show of this exciting new breed, give us a shout!
