Though not everyone has heard of the Belgain Malinois, or Belgain Shepherd Dog, the United States Secret Service and the Royal Australian Air Force use the breed exclusively. With an appearance somewhat similar to the German Shepherd, the Malinois is bred primarily as a working dog and used largely for personal protection.
A well-trained Malinois is usually active, friendly, hard-working and protective of his owners. These are large, strong dogs that require obedience training and enjoy being constantly challenged with new tasks. They are known to be very easy to train because of a high drive for reward, which allows them to succeed in competition events such as agility, obedience, tracking and herding events.
